Things to Know

Here’s a short video to help ease you into your stay at our home.
Little things make a difference

  • Getting the Key
  • Unlocking and locking the Front Door
  • Locking and Unlocking the Security Screens
  • Hooking up the BBQ propane tank
  • Where is the key for the Utility Room door
  • Adding water to the pool

In addition to the video, here are a few more items to keep in mind:

  • Wednesday is the day that landscapers attend to the yard with Lawn Mowers, Blowers, Trimmers, and such. It can be noisy in the yard during this process. This is a good day to plan for shopping or sightseeing in the area or Panama City.
  • The Lawn is self-irrigating, twice daily, morning and eve, during the dark hours. There are seven 10-minute zones and the whole process takes 1:10
  • The Pool will need to have water added every 3 to 4 days, 20-25 minutes should be enough to leave one row of dark blue tiles showing above the waterline. Please set an alarm to avoid overfilling. If you don’t set an alarm, you WILL forget about it, guaranteed! (Ask me how I know). The pool is serviced twice weekly, early in the morning. You may not even see them.
    Pool Valve
  • The Pool does NOT have protective fencing around it. If you have small children, please be watchful of them at all times around the Pool area.
  • We recently added 15,000 Watts of solar panels to the home to eliminate numerous power glitches and pesky short outages. The system is fully automatic and will automatically change to battery power in the event of a grid power outage. You may not even see the lights blink! Limit the use of air conditioning to prolong battery power. The batteries will automatically shut off when they get too low. They should last 8-10 hours with judicious power usage. Nonetheless, the internet router and several TVs are protected by a UPS (Uninterruptable Power Supply)  to keep those devices active during prolonged outages. There is an extra UPS for your laptop in the Den.
    Solar Panels
  • There is no local cable for the TVs. Starlink Internet provides continuous high speed internet throughout the home, with a 5-unit mesh system. There are Tivo Stream 4K’s units for the Den and all of the bedroom TVs for Streaming. If you want to watch TV, bring your credentials for Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, Apple TV, etc
The den features a 70″ Samsung TV with a JBL sound system.
  • The Twin and Queen Bedrooms have fans to keep the air fresh and moving in these rooms. They are pre-programmed to come on at 9 am and off at 7 pm. You can manually turn these on/off with this little black switch on the modules.
    SonOff Switch
    • Trash – Put trash in the cage out on the left side of the driveway, it is picked up, early, on Mon, Wed, and Fri.
If not fully locked, ANIMALS WILL GET IN!

  • WiFi– Starlink Satellite Internet Service
Just scan the QR code posted on the refridgerator for auto logon – easy peasy! The SSID (Lote64) and Password are also posted on the Fridge.
The Starlink is backed up by an uninterruptible power supply as it takes a while to reboot. The UPS prevents a loss of power to this device.
The TP-Link WiFi Mesh system is not protected as part of the signal goes through existing house wiring to provide WiFi to the bedrooms. A UPS would filter out this signal. It will reboot in just a few minutes if it should lose power. A green light indicates that the system has both power and satellite signal.
  • Geckos! You may occasionally see geckos crawling along the walls of the home. They are friendly, do not bite and eat bugs and will leave you alone.
They also will not attempt to sell you insurance…
  • 2 MUST HAVE APPS in Panama are WhatsApp to communicate and Waze to navigate and to make you aware of the numerous radar speed traps along the highway. Speed limits often change for no obvious reason…
  • Security – Whether you’re here or at home, it always pays to be aware of your surroundings. No flashy jewelry, leave nothing in the locked car, and make sure the security screen doors are locked at night. Although problems are rare, it’s best to avoid them whenever possible!
  • The Security screens that we have installed on the sliders and bedroom doors are the only protection needed to keep the house secure and cool. The keys can remain safely in place in the interior locks of the security screens. These Security Screen doors (and the front door lock) are the only doors that need to be locked at night or when you are away from the home.
  • Hot water is electric on-demand from the kitchen side of the house, it may take a few minutes to reach the Queen, Twin bedrooms, and Master Bath Sink. The Master Bedroom Shower has its’ own hot water heater!
  • Please use the squeegee on the glass in the Master Bedroom shower and attempt to keep the bathroom sink fixtures dry to avoid spotting on the glass and pictures from the minerals in the water, Thanks!
